What's New in Nearva - 4 March 2026

A week since the last update and this one is packed with hiking features, smarter filters, and a lot of polish under the hood.

New Features

Trail Elevation Charts & Details

Hiking trails now show rich enrichment data - elevation profile charts, difficulty ratings, and estimated hiking times. Get a proper sense of what a trail looks like before you commit to it.

Roundtrip / Linear Trail Filter

Looking for a loop hike that brings you back to your camper? The hiking search now lets you filter trails by roundtrip or linear. No more clicking through trails only to discover they end 15 km from where you parked.

The category chips on the map have been completely rethought. Instead of starting with everything shown and removing what you don't want, you now start with all categories and opt in to narrow down. Each chip has three states - making it much more intuitive to focus on exactly the location types you're looking for.

Luxembourg Hiking Trails

New data source: Geoportail Luxembourg's open data feed. Hundreds of official Luxembourg hiking trails are now in Nearva, with proper metadata and geometry.

Email Verification Polling

The email verification screen now polls automatically and shows a waiting indicator. No more manually refreshing - once you click the link in your email, the app picks it up and moves on.

Adaptive Map Tile Quality

Map tiles now adapt their quality based on your network speed. On fast connections you get crisp retina tiles; on slower connections the app automatically reduces tile resolution to keep scrolling smooth. You won't notice it - and that's the point.

Improvements

Google Play Store badge - The landing page now shows a Play Store download button, linking directly to Nearva on Google Play.
Mobile-friendly admin - All admin screens are now fully responsive on mobile devices (< 600px), so you can moderate on the go.
SEO & blog - Added rich structured data, FAQ schema, four new blog posts, and improved the blog layout with wider content and proper table styling.
Security hardening - Removed a hardcoded Sentry DSN and fixed error responses that could leak API key details.
Better trail data - Restored local hiking network (lwn) trails with a geometry-based quality guarantee, and tightened roundtrip detection to a 50m threshold to avoid false positives from bad OSM tags.
iOS groundwork - Initialized the iOS platform with base configuration, laying the foundation for an upcoming App Store release.

Bug Fixes

Facebook login on web - Facebook OAuth now works properly on mobile web browsers using the redirect flow. Also fixed the infamous #_=_ fragment that Facebook appends to redirect URLs, which was crashing the router.
App resume crash - Fixed a timeout exception when resuming the app from Android deep sleep.
"Show on map" for fuel stations - The button now actually moves the map to the fuel station instead of doing nothing.
Web geolocation - Skipped browser permission APIs that were causing issues and let the browser handle the location dialog natively.
Filter fixes - Subtype chip toggle now correctly narrows down results, and roundtrip/child-friendly filters are properly passed to the cluster endpoint.

Wat is er nieuw in Nearva - 4 maart 2026

Een week na de vorige update en deze zit vol wandelfuncties, slimmere filters en een hoop polijstwerk onder de motorkap.

Nieuwe functies

Hoogtecharts & wandeldetails

Wandelroutes tonen nu uitgebreide verrijkingsdata - hoogteprofielcharts, moeilijkheidsgraden en geschatte wandeltijden. Krijg een goed beeld van een route voordat je eraan begint.

Rondje / lineair routefilter

Op zoek naar een rondje dat je terugbrengt bij je camper? Bij het zoeken naar wandelingen kun je nu filteren op rondjes of lineaire routes. Geen eindeloos doorklikken meer om er dan achter te komen dat de route 15 km van je parkeerplaats eindigt.

Driestandencategoriefilter

De categorychips op de kaart zijn volledig herzien. In plaats van beginnen met alles zichtbaar en wegklikken wat je niet wilt, begin je nu met alle categorieën en kies je erbij om in te zoomen. Elke chip heeft drie standen - veel intuïtiever om precies de locatietypes te vinden die je zoekt.

Luxemburgse wandelroutes

Nieuwe databron: de open data van Geoportail Luxemburg. Honderden officiële Luxemburgse wandelroutes staan nu in Nearva, met correcte metadata en geometrie.

E-mailverificatie met polling

Het e-mailverificatiescherm pollt nu automatisch en toont een wachtindicator. Niet meer handmatig vernieuwen - zodra je op de link in je e-mail klikt, pikt de app het op en gaat verder.

Adaptieve kaarttegelkwaliteit

Kaarttegels passen hun kwaliteit nu aan op basis van je netwerksnelheid. Bij snelle verbindingen krijg je scherpe retinatiles; bij tragere verbindingen verlaagt de app automatisch de tegelresolutie om het scrollen soepel te houden. Je merkt het niet - en dat is precies de bedoeling.

Verbeteringen

Beveiligingsverbetering - Hardcoded Sentry DSN verwijderd en foutmeldingen gefixt die API-key-details konden lekken.
Betere wandeldata - Lokale wandelnetwerk (lwn) routes hersteld met geometrie-gebaseerde kwaliteitsgarantie, en rondjedetectie aangescherpt naar 50m drempel om valse positieven door foute OSM-tags te voorkomen.
iOS-voorbereiding - Het iOS-platform is geïnitialiseerd met basisconfiguratie, als basis voor een aankomende App Store-release.

Bugfixes

Facebook-login op web - Facebook OAuth werkt nu correct op mobiele webbrowsers via de redirect-flow. Ook de beruchte #_=_ fragment die Facebook aan redirect-URL's toevoegt - en die de router liet crashen - is gefixt.
App-hervatting crash - Timeout-uitzondering opgelost bij het hervatten van de app vanuit Android deep sleep.
"Toon op kaart" bij tankstations - De knop verplaatst de kaart nu daadwerkelijk naar het tankstation in plaats van niets te doen.
Webgeolocatie - Browser-permissie-API's overgeslagen die problemen veroorzaakten; de browser handelt de locatiedialoog nu zelf af.
Filterfixes - Subtypechip-toggle vernauwt nu correct de resultaten, en rondje/kindvriendelijk-filters worden goed doorgegeven aan het cluster-endpoint.
